VirtualBoss Construction Scheduling Software
VirtualBoss Installation Guide and Tips
VirtualBoss is a very easy program to install. It does not require any special configuration and will work on any windows based PC. In most cases, installation will go smoothly and you will be up and running in no time!

There are some things that may cause installations to not work properly. We will go over some of these things on this page.
The first thing you are asked during VirtualBoss installation is where you would like to install the software. The default location is c:\VirtualBoss\.

To avoid most problems, we highly recommend to install VirtualBoss to this location.

Installing programs to this location avoids permission related issues that can arise when installing into the Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders.

Since the introduction of the User Account Control (Windows Vista/7/8), programs that are installed to your computer are often given restricted access permissions (even to Admin accounts!)
This can result in VirtualBoss showing error messages during startup or deny certain actions like editing a database.
What to do if you think you have restricted access?
There are a few ways to correct these permission related problems. You could turn off the User Account Control setting. On Windows Vista, 7, and 8, the User Account Control Setting is on by default.
You could also manually check the security level of the VirtualBoss install folder and if needed, update the permissions to full access.
Here's how to check:
Navigate to the VirtualBoss install folder and Right-Click on it; Choose Properties. Under the Security tab, check to make sure the appropriate groups or user names are set to allow full control.
If you can't see the Security tab, you may need to turn off simple file sharing.
Once you have adjusted the permissions and verified you have full access to run VirtualBoss, try opening the software again to see if it helps. If you're still having trouble, contact our support team for assistance!
Open Table/DBF Window
This is an error window that can sometimes appear when the software runs without full user access. The window asks you to choose a table or dbf file to continue. This is an error, and regardless of which file you end up choosing (or hitting cancel) the window may just re-appear again.

You may need to forcefully close VirtualBoss by using the windows Task Manager to close the vboss.exe process. Your data will not be lost closing the software this way as all information is saved as you enter it.
To correct this issue, try re-installing VirtualBoss or review the how-to on updating your program permissions above.
Anti-Virus Software and how it affects VirtualBoss
You may not think of Anti-Virus software as harmful, but it can play dirty tricks on certain programs. Database programs, like VirtualBoss, can sometimes be affected by Anti-Virus or network security software such as AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials, or Norton products.
Your softare may perform much slower than expected, as these softwares tend to actively scan any database request made by programs. Fortunately, there are always ways to exclude programs from being actively scanned. These options are found within your Anti-virus or security software.

We highly recommend you set the VirtualBoss install folder and any databases you access to be excluded from any active anti-virus shields or network scans.
Our Recommendation for New Installs
The #1 cause of issues we've seen over the last few years is restricted program permissions. The culprit in most cases is the User Account Control setting. If you experience any problems using VirtualBoss, there's a very good chance it's caused by restricted access permissions or anti-virus software.
